Exclusive: Everton Plotting to Sign Leicester City Star after Midweek Transfer Mission

According to Football Insider, Everton are plotting a summer move for Leicester City star Jannik Vestergaard.

The Merseysiders’ new-look recruitment team are prioritising the capture of a dominant centre-back following a series of wretched defensive performances this term.

Vestergaard is definitely on the radar of Everton’s new director of football Kevin Thelwell, according to a source close to the club.

A senior Goodison scout was seeing the Denmark international play for his country in their 3-0 win over Serbia on Tuesday night.

Vestergaard, 29, played the entire 90 minutes of a game that will be remembered for Christian Eriksen’s goal and captaincy in a win at the Copenhagen stadium, where he suffered a heart arrest last summer.

Vestergaard joined Leicester from Southampton for about £15 million last summer.

Despite the long-term injuries to Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans, he has not been a regular starter for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Vestergaard has only made six Premier League starts in his 20 games overall.

His only two Premier League appearances since early October have coincided with Man City’s 6-3 hammering and Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat.

The Dane’s aerial supremacy – he stands at 6ft 6in – and Premier League experience, though, are valued by Everton’s recruitment team.

Vestergaard spent three years at Southampton after signing from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2018.

He has made 82 Premier League appearances as well as played 33 times for Denmark.
