Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) 2023/24 Scholarships For Women From Developing Countries – US & Canada
MMEG offers scholarships for female students hailing from developing Countries, supporting their educational pursuits to uplift the lives of women and children. These scholarships are designated for use in educational institutions in the United States and Canada.
The Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) program is dedicated to providing financial assistance to women from developing nations, enabling them to further their education and cultivate strong leadership skills. The ultimate goal is to enhance the well-being of women and children in developing countries. MMEG awards educational grants of approximately $15,000 to women from both developing and middle-income countries. These grants are aimed at those who, upon completing their degrees, intend to return to their home countries or other developing nations. Their mission is to actively contribute to the betterment of the lives of women and children in these regions.
Eligibility
Age Requirement: You must be a minimum of 25 years old at the time of the application deadline as indicated in the specific regional program application details.
Nationality: You should be a citizen of a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List, which is provided below.
Academic Enrollment: You must be currently enrolled at an accredited academic institution when submitting your application. Additionally, you should have plans to remain enrolled for a full academic term after receiving the grant from the Board.
Family Ties: You cannot have a familial relationship with a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank staff member or their spouse.
Full-Time Student Status: You should already be enrolled as a full-time student and possess a relevant student visa in your national passport.
Continuous Full-Time Study: You must plan to continue your full-time studies for at least one academic semester (equivalent to half a year) after receiving the MMEG grant in April.
Graduation Timeline: Your graduation should not occur later than two and a half years following the award of the MMEG grant.
Citizenship and Residency: You are ineligible if you hold U.S. citizenship, permanent residency (green card), or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status.

The most recent proof of official registration from your university (not an acceptance letter).
Your latest official university transcripts and/or reports.
The visa page or study permit page in your current passport (if studying abroad).
The second passport page with a clear photo (if you have dual citizenship).
During the online application, you’ll need to upload these documents. Additionally, you’ll be asked to provide:
Brief paragraphs about your personal journey and how your studies, experiences, and future plans relate to your commitment to women and children in developing countries.
An estimate of your financial situation for the upcoming academic year, including living expenses and your funding plan.
A summary of your thesis (if applicable), including its goals, methodology, findings, and its relevance to your career goals.
You’ll also need two reference letters:
One from a faculty member at your current university.
The second from a non-family member who can vouch for your character. Both should have known you for at least two semesters.
