Report reaching Olainfo from a reliable source states that men of Boko Haram aided by their Islamic State West African Province, ISWAP fighters have allegedly burnt the United Nation’s office in Borno.
According to the source, the incident happened on Saturday in Damasak town in Borno state. The insurgents reportedly set ablaze UN office and at least there international charity organisations contagious to UN facility.
According to a local source in Damasak town, “The insurgents invaded the town in gun trucks. They first carried out a looting operation where they carted away relief aids meant for the Internally Displaced Persons before setting the UN office on fire and three other facilities belonging to other charity organisations.”
An Army source also confirmed the attack but said Nigerian troops are on ground to ensure the terrorists do not unleash further mayhem in the town and to also hunt for the criminals.
The source further revealed that, their first plan was to invade the military base but unfortunately for them, the gallant men of the Nigeria Army were able to repel the attack. He noted that, the Nigerian Air Force aircraft is currently in air bombardment with the terrorists.
There have been several reports of attacks by these terrorists on UN facilities in the North-East previously. There was an attack on a UN hub in Dikwa on March 1 leaving six civilians killed and March 15 attack on Damasak in Borno state. The UN is however yet to react to the fresh attack.
