The Attorney General of the Federation SAN has reacted to the reports making round the media that he filed a case before the court to challenge the citizenship of the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and restrict him from contesting for president in the 2023 election.
Few days ago, recall that some major and reputable news sources had reported that Malami had already filed a case before the court to stop Atiku from further participation in the presidential race with the claim that where he hails from Adamawa state falls under Cameroon. The reports revealed that the AGF is asking the court to use his citizenship to stop him from contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
However Malami has denied the claim and stated that no case was filed against the former vice president by neither the AGF nor any individual.
In a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of AGF, Dr. Umar Jibrilu on Wednesday, Malami said that, he never filed any case before any court in the country to challenge the citizenship of Atiku Abubakar.
According to the statement, the matter in contention was part of the 2019 pre-election matters instituted by a civil society organization – the Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa in suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/177/2019 in respect of which Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Office of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation was made a co-defenfant.
He expressed displeasure and claimed the news which was already been reported by several media sources in 2019 is now what some mischiefs want to use and repackage to cause confusion amongst well-meaning Nigerians.
