Woman’s rights activist, Laila St. Matthew-Daniel has weighed in on the trending ban on Igbo songs and choruses by a priest in his parish.
Olainfo earlier reported how a Catholic priest of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Lagos, Rev. Fr. James Anelu banned Igbo songs and choruses in his parish over dominance.
It was also gathered that the priest has been suspended by the Catholic authority after a video of the Church service where he imposed the ban had gone viral.
However, amids the brouhaha trailing the action of the clergyman during the Church service, the activist has taken to social media to defend him as she compared the people of Igbo extraction with fanatic Muslims.
The Lagos born activist who commented on a Facebook post about the suspension of the priest, stated that the priest was right to have taken such decision.
A Facebook user, Moji Danisa wrote:
“Some of us are not Igbo we don’t understand all those long songs during mass. Not all Nigerian Catholics are Ibo. I agree with that priest cos I don’t enjoy mass again biko. They make it all so boringly long. Yes, Latin is translated in the bulletins. Simple.
“Must you people ‘colonise’ everywhere, biko? Now, they want to roast a priest for saying the truth. Some are even whipping up same ‘victim’ sentiments! mtchhheeeewww
Moji came under att@ck by some supposed Igbo users on the platform before Laila weighed in.
The activist replied via her Facebook page, Laila St. Mathew-Daniel to defended Moji’s post about the ban on Igbo songs by Fr. James Anelu.
Laila wrote:
“She speaks the truth I have Igbos in my family so I speak in love. I also love beat on the Igbo tune but makes no sense to me if I don’t understand what they are singing or shouting about.
“The issue I have is the need for the Igbos to be domineering and wanting to take over a situation. It is in their DNA believe that.
“I can’t remember one of the colonialists, when giving an analysis of the different tribes did say that Igbos are stubborn, opinionated and unwilling to be led. YES the war was a sad situation BUT HOW did it start?
“I don’t see any difference really in the Igbos and some faction of fanatical Muslims who go to a place and want to take over the place.
