It’s seven days to the gubernatorial election in Ondo state, many candidates contesting under different political parties had given their manifestos in the various campaigns and rallies held across the state including the current governor, Rotimi Akeredolu who is demanding from the people of the state to remain in office for the second term. His major contenders include his deputy, Agboola Ajayi who is contesting under an opposition party, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Eyitayo Jegede of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The election is slated to hold on the 10th of this month, October.
As the day of the exercise approaches, we at Olainfo.com.ng engaged in a trip to the southern part of Ondo State as regard information received from the people of the region. We carried out this tour in a bid to confirm the authenticity of the information that reached us at olainfo.com.ng. The people of the region, Ikale to be precised expressed disappointment in the government of the state for not addressing the power outage in their land which has lasted for more than seven years. Communities under Ikale region include Ode-Irele, Okitipupa, Ode-Aye, Igbotako, Ajagba, Ode-Erinje and host of others. This issue is not limited to only Ikale but also extends to coastal parts of the region which are Ilaje and Ese-Odo.
In our street to street and house to house interview, the people of the affected communities decry the failure of the state government to fix the faults that led to the total power outage in the region for more than seven years even after getting 40% of votes that brought them to power from the region. They took us to where electricity poles and cables have fallen which need total repair, most of the transformers appeared to be faulty which need new ones to replace them. The people explained how the issue has affected the economy of the region leaving many people to move out of the communities most especially strangers.

They claimed the current governor of the state, Akeredolu (Aketi) had promised to fix the issue when he was contesting for governor in the first election that brought him to power in 2016. They maintained that Aketi got 40% of the votes that contributed to his victory from the southern part of the state with the hope that he’ll fulfill his of addressing electricity issue when he eventually wins. The action of the governor was disappointing after securing the victory as he neglects and abandones the vow he made to the people of Ikale and the entire south.
There was report that government had managed to fix the Ore and Odigbo parts of the region leaving Ikale, Ilaje and Ese-Odo parts untouched. The reports from the people of Irele and Okitipupa have it that the people of Odigbo and Ore town had been enjoying electricity since last year, 2019 while they are still looking for government to extend the same gesture to their land.
However, after a successful interview, reports and opinions from the people of Ikale and neighbouring towns and villages, olainfo is concluding that Akeredolu may lose in the Southern part of Ondo State due to the reports we gathered from there and which are stated above. This is not a certainty that the governor will lose in the southern region or totally lose his second term bid but an opinion on what may cause his loss in the aforementioned region, which is the southern senatorial district.
