What Aston Villa Owners NSWE Have Told Steven Gerrard ahead of Summer Transfer Window

Aston Villa are set for another busy transfer window this summer.

There is gap between Aston Villa and European-chasing Premier League clubs, according to Steven Gerrard, but will be bridged this summer with the support of club owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

Villa are preparing for another hectic transfer window, with Gerrard looking to bolster his squad ahead of their assault on the top seven spots in the league next season. As Gerrard and the recruitment staff aim high in the market, the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma are thought to be on the club’s summer shortlist.

Of course, there’s the small matter of extending Philippe Coutinho’s stay at the club. Villa have a £33 million option to buy him, but the Brazilian will have to dramatically cut his pay to commit his future to Villa Park.

And Gerrard is certain that the billionaire owners of Villa, NSWE, will spend big this summer. “Now is not the time to talk about figures and amounts,” Villa’s head coach said ahead of the summer transfer window. In terms of financial support, what the owners have done for this club has been incredible.

“I don’t think they’ll change because given the communication I’ve had, they’re very ambitious and they want to win matches, as I do. I think we are aligned from the top of the club to bottom. My close staff all know where we are strong and where we need support.

“We took over a team 16th in the league and we’ve done ever so well to get into a safe position as we stand. We’ve had opportunities to go and grab positions above us but the league doesn’t lie. At the moment there’s a gap to the teams above us.”
