Report reaching Olainfo on Wednesday afternoon has that, the popular Lagos slum, Makoko is currently going up in flames.
A third of the community is built on stilts along the lagoon and the rest is on the land.
The waterfront part of the community is largely harboured by the Egun people who migrated from Badagary and Republic of Benin and whose main occupation is fishing.
In a latest report on Instagram as shared by Thetattleroomng, the burning settlement as seen in a video is identified as the popular Makoko slum in Lagos.
A man could be heard in the video saying that, the fire just started and fire fighters are yet to arrive the scene. However, the cause of the fire outbreak and numbers of casualties remain sketchy at the time of filing this report.
I will update more details regarding the incident, as they unfold.
