Identity of The Police Officer Who Shot Sowore Revealed

It was earlier reported that the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore was shot by a Nigerian police officer at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.

Shahara Reporters reported that the activst was at place with his team to protest against insecurity in the country. He was trying to force himself into the place when a trigger-happy police officer shot him on the right side of his stomach.

Lastest report has indicated that Nigerian Police has eventually identified the officer who shot the human rights defender during a demonstration against insecurity in Nigeria. She’s a female officer identified as Hyelhira Altine Daniel.

We learnt that protesers had gathered at the protest venue as at 8:30am but security operatives allegedly flopped their plans by denying them entry into the place.

We also learnt that, a number of protesers also sustained all kind of wounds during the incident. Sowore was taken to an undisclosed hospital after being shot.

A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong who reacted to the incident described it as barbaric. He noted that, it is a criminal offence under the Anti-Torture Act of 2017.
