The charging center which is situated at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto was launched by National Automotive Design and Development Commission, NADDC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jelani Aliyu, DG of NADDA and a designer for the popular American brand, Chevrolet described the development as a milestone achievement to begin a new era in the country. He opined that solar powered technologies are perfect means of providing clean and environmentally friendly transportation in cities and remote areas in Nigeria.
He further noted that, the charging stations would soon be generally adopted like the conventional filling stations as the usage of electric cars is apparently going to grow exponentially.
He also added that the new invention poses numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs as business oriented individuals would like to venture into the establishment of charging stations to provide unprecedented services to users of the new electric vehicles.
Furthermore, he revealed that the initiative is parts of federal government efforts to encourage and promote the exploration of modern technology in the country which will inturn diversify the Nation’s economy and take it to a greater height.
The DG posited that the partnership between the NADDC and Nigerian Universities will lead to positively transforming the Universities to centres of manufacturing advanced technologies.
Usman Danfodio University Sokoto is the first to benefit from the collaboration, while University of Lagos and University of Nigeria, Nsukka are in line to key in effectively.
