Fani Koyode Expresses Fear Over Call to Relocate AFRICOM Headquarters to Africa

Femi Fani Kayode has reacted to the call on the US government to relocate Africa Command, AFRICOM base to Africa in a bid to combat insecurity challenges rocking some parts of the continent.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had recently called on the US to relocate AFRICOM Headquarters from Stuttgart, Germany back to Africa to address insecurity. Buhari swiftly made the call following several reports of terrorist and bandits activities of killings and abductions in several parts of the country.

This development has been sparking reactions amongst Nigerians as many call it a welcome development while some express pessimism, saying the president always talk without action. According to them, as a sovereign state and country that has one of the most strongest army in the continent should be able to fight insurgency without foreign support if the system is not compromised.

However, FFK has also shared his view on the call as he express fear and possible threat and menace the relocation will pose if eventually achieved. The former Aviation Minister said that it would be the biggest mistake should Africa allow AFRICOM base moved from Stuttgart, Germany to the continent.

He claims that, taking such step to curb insecurity could hunt Africans, stating from experiences of some countries in the Middle East and far Asia after trusting Americans for their defences.

He therefore, urged Africans not to allow it to happen because the outcome could be regretful just like how it happened to some Asian nations.
