Ekiti State Government Takes Delivery of 250 Cows for Ikun Diary Farm (Photos)

Ekiti State government has just received second batch of Jersey cows from the United States.

Ikun Diary Farm is a joint venture between the Ekiti State government and Promasider Nigeria Limited. The initiative is part of the State government efforts to boost production of local milk in Nigeria with a target of producing 10,000 litres of milk daily.

Promosider is a renowned food manufacturing company in Nigeria that ventured into partnership with Ekiti state government to float Ikun Diary Farm Limited with the help of Central Bank of Nigeria.

The farm had received it’s first batch of heifers in February, 2021. Due to weight of the first batch heifers (mostly pregnant) and available cargo space, they were able to take delivery of 50 cows out of the 250 agreed for the first batch.

Olainfo was informed that, the second batch has arrived Nigeria from United States today. The State govenrment has taken delivery of another 250 cows increasing the total number of Jersey heifers in the farm to 300. The farm now have almost 500 in total comprising the foreign and local breeds.
