BREAKING: NiRA Suspends Website For Using “Biafra” as Domain Name

Nigeria Internet Registration Association, NiRA has allegedly suspended a domain name that contains Biafra.

Olainfo learnt that, NiRA has just flagged a website with a domain name, biafragist.com.ng. The owner of the website alleged the body of suspending the domain for containing Biafra and attempt to use it as a tool in promoting secession.

According to reports, this is not the first, second or third time NiRA will take such action against domains that are designed to promote and advocate for freedom in Nigeria. The developer confirmed the suspension by NiRA and he accused the body of working with government to cripple the actualisation of Biafra.

NiRA has now become one of the govenrment tools use to clamp down on online platforms that advocate for freedom and preach truth to the masses. Other kind of domains they suspend are the ones that carries protest tag, such as EndSARS and other agitating words.

NiRA is a body that oversees Nigeria’s country code top-level domain like ng. Registration of domain names are handled by NIRA certified registrars. It uses the Registry–Registrar–Registrant model in operating and managing the top-level domain.

If you want to create a website with the intention of demanding or promoting justice, aspiring publishers or bloggers are hereby advised to avoid .NG and go for .com whenever they want to register a domain.
