The Attorney General of the Federation, AGF Malami has triggered mixed reactions after he said the banning of open grazing by Southern governors is like banning spare parts trading in the North.
Recall that the Southern governors had unanimously resolved that open grazing of cattles by Fulani herders in Southern Nigeria should seize. The ban was necessitated following the reports of killings, destruction of farms and kidnapping allegedly unleashed on the region by cattle herders.
Malami made this known during a live programme with Seun Okinbaloye on Chennels Television. During the interview, the AGF said it is dangerous to ban open grazing in the South, equates the action to the banning of spare parts trading in the North.

According to him, if such action should be taken, the governors need to write to the National Assembly for amendment of constitution. He said the constitution permits every Nigerian right of movement in any part of the country and it will be very dangerous to implement such action, he stated.
In Malami’s knowledge, only the Southerners trade spare parts business in the North and only Northerners do cattle business in the South. He is actually seeing the banning of open grazing as a major set back to Northerners business in the South which may be applied to Southerners doind business too in the North if fully implemented.
However, mixed reactions from several Nigerians have trailed the statement of the AGF with some saying he is apparently revealing his hatred to the Igbos. They claim that Igbo people are the major dealers of spare parts in Nigeria, so his statement is targeting Igbos.
While some insist he is referring to all Southerners and not only Igbos. According to them, there are many tribes in the North who are also into spare parts and other business in the North.
