A report by reputable sources on Monday confirmed that a coalition of northern socio-cultural groups, basically of Fulani extraction, purchased the APC nomination form for Jonathan to contest for the 2023 presidency.
According to an impeccable source, a governor from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) paid for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s nomination and expression of interest forms.
According to viral reports on Monday, Jonathan’s nomination form for the 2023 presidential election was acquired by a coalition of northern socio-cultural organizations, mostly of Fulani descent.
However, through his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, the former President stated that he did not endorse the purchase and that the group’s action was “an insult,” especially because he was not a member of the ruling party.
However, sources said on Tuesday that a serving northern governor, whose identity was not revealed, credited N100 million to the APC Collection Account domiciled with Heritage Bank.
The bank had also in a letter dated May 9, 2022 told the APC that it received the amount.
The letter was titled, ‘Notification of credit into account: All Progressives Congress (APC) Collections Account: 5600007616’.
Jonathan’s homecoming bid is being plotted by two powerful governors from the northern half of the country, according to the Daily Trust.
According to multiple sources close to President Muhammadu Buhari, the two governors have acquired the buy-in of a section of the government to carry out their plan to draft the former president into the presidential contest.
One governor is from the North-West geopolitical zone, while the other is from the North-East.
In recent years, the two governors have played pivotal roles in the APC’s affairs.
